CROCODILE TAKES TO THE WATER IN
TRANSATLANTIC ROWING CHALLENGE
Typifying its commitment to strength and
durability, Crocodile Packaging Limited will be taking
to the water in October when the company’s Sales
Director, Julian McHardy, participates in the world's
toughest rowing race - the arduous Atlantic Rowing
Challenge 2001.
The Atlantic Rowing Challenge was the
inspiration of legendary yaughtsman, Sir Chay Blyth. In
1966, Sir Chay was part of a two-man team which rowed
from Cape Cod to Ireland to become only the second crew
in history to successfully row across an ocean. Three
decades after his own epic voyage, Sir Chay established
the Atlantic Challenge to encourage keen adventurers to
take part in the world's first ever ocean rowing race.
On October 12th 1997, thirty double-handed teams set off
in identical boats to compete in the 2,900 mile race
which was won in a record breaking 41 days by a New
Zealand team.
Sponsored by corporate insurers, Ward
Evans, the next prestigious Atlantic Rowing Challenge
will set off from Tenerife in The Canary Islands on
Sunday 7th October and will finish in Barbados
approximately 55 days later. The race will involve
thirty-six pairs of rowers battling it out for survival
and supremacy on the waves. Among the rowers taking part
in the forthcoming event will be Julian McHardy, Sales
Director of Crocodile Packaging Limited. A keen but
inexperienced rower, Julian has been training for the
race for over two years with his team mate, Mark
Williams. The high profile status of the transatlantic
race prompted Julian's company, Crocodile Packaging, to
become involved in sponsoring his boat. With the
state-of-the-art vessel bearing the company's name and
logo, Crocodile has provided significant funds for the
project and will benefit from worldwide media and
corporate attention during and after the event.
Crocodile Packaging is a leading
supplier of robust and durable bespoke packaging
solutions. The company offers a full range of systems
designed to protect items of any size and shape during
short or long haul transit. Ideal for shipping,
airfreight, road transport and even manual handling,

use and are fully collapsible for easy return and

stacking strength and exceptional reliability.
Commenting on the forthcoming race,
Julian says "Mark and I are looking forward to the
challenge of the race and I am confident that we can
complete the course in a respectable time. I was
delighted that Crocodile Packaging came on board with
the project. In fact, the company's involvement with the
Atlantic Challenge represents an extension of its
commitment to ensuring the safe transportation of
difficult loads in harsh conditions!"
