Liquid
IBC's
Bag-in-a-box liquid intermediate bulk containers are
not a new idea but the Crocodile Liquid Box is
probably the most successful re-usable system
available. Crocodile customers using our liquid
IBC's show vast cost savings over competitor's
options. See the case study below.
|
The
inherent strength of the 18mm plywood box means that
1000 litre containers can be stacked up to six high
and contents are fully protected by the Crocodile
rebate system.
The plywood type of IBC has a number of advantages
over metal and plastic systems, not least the
initial cost and resistance to damage… Indeed, if
damage does occur the modular design allows
individual replacement of panels or bases at very
low cost.

|
Crocodile can make boxes to suit any system of
filling and emptying and can include extra details
such as inspection hatches, removable panels,
specialised pallet bases and treated surfaces to
enhance the usability of the box.
Crocodile liquid containers are used in a number of
industries including cosmetics, ink manufacture,
industrial oil manufacture, water treatment
research, inert chemical transport, milk transport,
agriculture etc.

Case
study
A company manufacturing and shipping specialist
industrial lubricants to and from their plants on
four continents around the world used to use a
common form of steel framed collapsible liquid IBC.
|
They have
a closed loop system and rented on average 850 IBC's
per day at a daily cost of 67pence each.
|
The total
cost of rental was nearly £208,000 per year and in
addition they spent much time 'managing' the IBC's
to ensure that de-hiring took place at the
appropriate times in order to minimise the hire
costs. They decided to look at the alternatives,
including buying their own containers…
|
They calculated that
they would need to buy 3,000 IBC's to fill their
system and were prepared to invest £645,000 at £215
each. The expected lifetime of each IBC was five
years, so the gross payback would have been £395,000
in that period, less maintenance, replacements etc.
which was expected to run at about 5% per year, or
£161,000 in total. Net payback was therefore
expected to be £233,000
|
|
|
Crocodile's
solution was beneficial in more ways than one…
Firstly the initial investment on 3,000 IBC's was
almost 30% less at £459,000 (£153 each). Secondly
the Crocodile boxes would flat pack to a 15% smaller
space for return transport and storage. In addition,
the expected lifetime was 6 years and finally the
replacement and maintenance costs were expected to
run at only 3% per year, or £14,000… Needless to
say, the company in question decided to turn to the
Crocodile solution.
|
8 years on
from the initial investment the Crocodile system has
proved itself and has far exceeded the original
expectations. The boxes are still in regular use
after 8 years, replacement and maintenance has
proved to cost 1.6% per year (less than £7,000) and
the return logistics have proved to be easy to
manage.
